Off-Campus Shooting

Philadelphia and Temple police are investigating a shooting this morning inside a home on the 1200 block of Susquehanna Avenue, according to a TU Advisory issued at 11:15 a.m.

The shooter was described as a 5-foot-7 bald male, wearing a plaid shirt and blue jeans. The suspect was last seen at Susquehanna Avenue and Broad Street, and police say they believe they know the shooter’s identity. The alert asked student’s to avoid the area, due to increased police activity.

Anyone with more information regarding the crime should contact the Philadelphia police.

Vernalicious arrives on campus

A new lunch truck has emerged at 12th and Montgomery Streets called Vernalicious.

Today is the food truck’s second day on campus, according to owner Verna Swerdlow.  Swerdlow, a Philadelphia native, works alongside boyfriend Dave Jurkofsky in the truck.

Their tagline, “Simply Good Food,” hopes to describe the items on its menu, which features home-style griddled mac and cheese and their specialty, lamb.

Burnt sausages

At approximately 8pm Monday evening, the residents of 1940 residence hall on Liacouras Walk when the fire alarm alerted residents to clear the building.

According to several reports, a cooking venture in the basement kitchen gone wrong – burned sausages, to be exact – caused this inconvenience.

To all new students living in residence halls, here is a general rule of thumb: don’t cook. If you’re going to cook, don’t do it at 3am, during finals or midterms, or in the wintertime.

You Should Always be Camera-Ready…

…especially if you’re front row at a game that’s being broadcast on ESPN.

Jazz professor releases groovy new record

The old saying goes, “if you can’t do, teach.” But for jazz professor Norman David, teaching students is only supplementary to his band, the Eleventet, which just released a new record, “At This Time.” The composition is receiving great reviews and is available on iTunes and Amazon, according to World Cafe Live.

According to the venue’s website, the Eleventet has been playing up and down the east coast for the last 20 years. In 2007, David finalized a Philadelphia-based roster and since they’ve been playing frequently throughout the city.

This Wednesday, David and his ensemble will be playing a show at World Cafe Live at 8 p.m. Tickets are $16 in advance and $15 at the door the day before the show.

 

 

Free concert tonight at Temple Performing Arts Center

The Boyer College of Music & Dance is hosting a concert tonight honoring John T. Douglas, former music director of Opera Theater (1989-2010).  Opera arias and piano melodies will echo through the newly renovated Baptist Temple in the Lew Klein Hall. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and is open to the public, free of charge.

Pan-Hel Sorority Recruitment begins today

Fall 2011 recruitment officially began today at 12:30 p.m. in the Underground of the Student Center, where sisters, Gamma Rhos and Greek hopefuls gathered for Recruitment registration and an informational session.

 

Events continue throughout the week, ending with Bid Day on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m., location TBA. A detailed schedule of events can be found here.
