Woman dies in Anderson Hall

Anderson Hall.jpgA still unidentified woman in her mid-60s died in Anderson Hall yesterday night, according to witnesses. A woman, who at least one source identified simply as “Jean,” was in attendance at an end-of-the-semester event held by Temple University’s chapter of the Pan-African Studies Community Education Program on the third floor of Anderson on 13th between Montgomery and Norris.

A Temple student who is a regular participant in PASCEP claims the woman is a New Jersey resident who commutes to Main Campus on Tuesdays to attend a Temple class. She complained of being overheated, stood and fell, striking her head, the participant said. Members of the group complained of the response time of first responders.

Security guards recorded being contacted at 7:20 p.m., according to university spokesman Ray Betzner. Temple foot and vehicle patrols responded and had arrived by 7:21 p.m., according to their reports as noted by Betzner.

Details of the woman’s official relationship to Temple were not immediately available, nor was it clear if the woman was pronounced dead in Anderson Hall or if she was first transported to a hospital. It was a sobering element to what was meant to be a festive event and those in attendance noted their dismay at the tragic end.
