Unwanted mall rats booted

A nationwide trend is hitting close to home. So close that it’s actually sending teens home.

Christiana Mall in Newark, Del., has caused a stir in the southern suburbs. Beginning July 11, the mall will kick those naughty teenagers out of the mall at 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. After that, teens aged 17 and under must have parental guidance.

The ban has been put in place because tenants said the teens, who would normally linger around the mall without shopping, prevented certain shoppers from coming to the mall, thus hurting business.

Christiana Mall joins 54 other malls throughout the nation that have enacted similar policies. And with Newark being only 45.85 miles from Center City, the trend is creeping closer.
