Woman killed near Health Sciences campus

A young North Philadelphia resident was shot and killed only blocks away from Temple’s Health Sciences campus around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, a Philadelphia Police Department spokesperson confirmed.

Shari Haris, 23, was on the 3300 block of North 13th Street when she was shot in the head. The PPD believe the motive of the action may have been robbery.

When police arrived, they saw the female lying in the street. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:36 a.m.

Haris was a resident of the 3300 block of North Park Street, just west of the Olney subway station and almost 3 miles north of where she was killed.

There are currently no leads in the case.

Arrest made in shooting of PSU student

Jeffrey Little, the 20-year-old resident of 2100 block of North Marvine Street sought in the murder of Penn State Abington student Mohan Varughese, was arrested this morning, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The Philadelphia Police Department released Little’s information yesterday, issuing an arrest warrant.

Varughese, who was slated to graduate one week ago today, was shot and killed while visiting his girlfriend on the 2200 block of North Camac Street on May 9.

Student released from hospital after Halloween shooting

20-year-old Ian Hirst-Hermans, a junior advertising major, was released from Temple University Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 4, the Delaware County Times reported on Saturday.

Hirst-Hermans was shot outside of a party on North 17th Street at around 2 a.m. on Oct. 31 by uninvited party guest Richard Dodds, 21, of Audobon, Pa.

Hirst-Hermans of Drexel Hill, Pa. reportedly has four to six weeks of recuperation and rehabilitation for a paralyzed hand from nerve damage.

Breaking News: Philadelphia Police officer shot in North Philadelphia

A Philadelphia Police detective is hospitalized in stable condition at Temple Hospital after being shot in the leg this afternoon near Germantown and Indiana avenues, about two miles northeast of Main Campus.

Police have not identified the officer, but said he is 42 years old and a 20-year veteran detective. According to police, the officer’s unit was serving a warrant for a man wanted in connection with an October 2008 shooting when a suspect opened fire.

The officer returned fire and shot the suspect, police said.

On Feb. 13, Officer John Pawlowski was shot to death in the line of duty near Broad and Olney streets in North Philadelphia.

BREAKING NEWS: Shooting at Broad & Susquehanna

The Temple News is reporting a 25-year-old male was shot at Crown Fried Chicken at the corner of Broad Street and Susquehanna Avenue. The fast food restaurant is across the street from White Hall.

A black male sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and is in critical condition at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia Police told The Temple News. No arrests have been made. Eyewitnesses said an altercation at the restaurant ended in gunfire.
