Police looking for suspect wanted in subway robbery

Philadelphia Police are looking for a man who they said took a 17-year-old girl’s phone at the Susquehanna-Dauphin stop on the Broad Street Line last week.

On Nov. 5, the girl entered the subway at the Olney stop and, after a short time, the man approached her, took the phone and fled the train, police said. The girl chased the man, but could not catch up to him.

The suspect is described by police as a black male of light complexion, wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

Police investigating series of off campus robberies

Philadelphia Police are investigating three robberies off campus between Sunday Nov. 11, and Monday Nov. 12, according to a TU Advisory. The robberies, involving students, took place west of Main Campus.

The first robbery was on Sunday at 8:45 a.m., on the 2000 block of North 18th Street. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old, black male, 5 feet 9 inches, wearing a black “beanie” cap, blue puffy coat and blue jeans, the advisory stated.

Nearly 12 hours later the next robbery was committed on the 1600 block of West Edgley Street. The advisory described that suspect as a black male, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with the hood covering his face.

On Monday at 6 p.m., the third robbery was committed on the 2100 block of North 16th Street by a suspect described as a black male, 6-foot-1-inch, of thin build, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black baggy jeans, according to the advisory.

Police have stepped up patrols in the area and anyone with information is asked to contact  Temple Police at 215-204-1234.

Police looking for three suspects in cell phone robbery last month

Philadelphia Police are investigating a cell phone theft took place on Oct. 9, at 9:10 a.m., on the 1700 block of Diamond Street.

The victim was walking along the block when three males allegedly snuck up behind the victim and snatched the cell phone from his possession. The victim chased the offenders for several blocks before stopping his pursuit around 18th and French streets. Video surveillance has also caught two males believed to be the suspects.

The first suspect is said to be a black male who is 20 to 30 years old, has a mustache, and was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect is described as a black male in dark clothing. No description was provided for the third suspect.

Suspect wanted for robberies near 18th and Diamond

Philadelphia Police are looking for suspects wanted in connection with a series of strong-armed robberies in the area of 18th and Diamond streets between Aug. 23 and Sept 10.

On Aug. 30, at 5:00 p.m., a 21-year-old woman was robbed on the 1800 block of Diamond Street when a man grabbed her wallet which contained her identification and credit cards. About an hour later, a woman was caught on surveillance video using the victim’s credit cards at a grocery store on the 1800 block of Diamond Street

A few days later on Sept. 2, at 12:30 p.m., a man was forced into a doorway by the male suspect who took the victim’s iPhone out of his pocket and fled. 

The suspect is described as a 17 to 20-year-old black man of medium build and medium complexion with a beard. He was seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans.

Authorities are unclear whether the robberies are connected or if the suspects are working together.

Police investigating robbery-homicide near Health Sciences

Temple police sent out an advisory to students and faculty informing them of a robbery homicide that occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning near the Health Sciences Campus.

The incident occurred on the 3200 block of North 15th Street between Allegheny and Westmoreland Avenues. The victim was not a Temple student or employee, according to the advisory.

The email, sent at 1:56 p.m., stated that campus police “were just recently made aware of the exact location of the incident.”

At the time of the advisory, no arrests had been made and police are looking for a black male, between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and riding a bike.

Student robbed on northern end of Main Campus

A suspect is in custody after allegedly robbing a Temple student on Diamond Street near Broad late Monday morning, according to a TU Advisory.

The TU Advisory was sent out at 12:51 p.m. and said that at 10:45 a.m., a student reported being robbed on Diamond Street and shortly after, police arrested a person matching the description of the offender and a weapon believed to be used by the suspect.

Two bank robberies occur toward the south end of Main Campus

The FBI and Philadelphia Police Department are investigating what they say are connected bank robberies that occured on the outskirts of Main Campus between  June 8 and 12.

Police said in a press release that on Friday at 12:09 p.m., a man walked into the United Bank of Philadelphia at 1501 N. Broad St and handed the teller a threatening note. After obtaining an unkown amount of cash from the bank, the suspect fled the scene on foot.

Yesterday, a similar incident occured at the Bank of America at 1600 N. Broad St., where a suspect entered the bank at 10:00 a.m. and gave the teller a demanding note. The suspect obtained cash and fled on foot from this incident as well, according to police.

Police said that they believe the suspect who robbed the Bank of America yesterday is the same man who robbed the United Bank of Philadelphia on Friday.

He is described as a tall, black male around 40-years-old and of medium build. Anyone with information is asked to call the violent crimes task force at 215-418-4000.

TU Advisory issued in near-campus robbery/assault

Campus Safety Services issued a TU Advisory this evening to warn students that a 19-year-old female non-Temple-student was robbed and assaulted by an unknown male after midnight last night on the 1600 block of Fontain Street. Fontain is located between Diamond and Norris, 16th and 17th streets.

The Advisory reads:

Police said the 19-year-old female was on the 1600 block of Fontain Street after midnight Wednesday, Oct. 14, when she was approached by a man who said he had a weapon. After forcing her into a vacant lot where the two struggled, the woman fought him off. He got away with a small amount of money. The woman reported being groped, but not otherwise harmed.”

CSS also urged students to utilize the TUrDoor service or OwlLoop shuttle when traveling late at night.

Crime on rise in Center City

The Philadelphia Police are reporting an increase in robberies in Center City, Philadelphia.

In areas typically considered “safe” and “busy,” like Society Hill, Old City and even City Hall, robberies are on the rise. More than 300 have been reported in the past month. One suspect allegedly said to his victim, “I’ll blow your brains out” at Sixth and Spruce streets.

To keep citizens in the know, the Philadelphia Police have created a Web site that allows you to enter an address or intersection and see a list of crimes committed in that area within a certain time frame.
