President chooses Temple over Penn State in NCAA bracket

Last year, President Barack Obama chose Cornell University over Temple in the NCAA Tournament. The Owls lost 78-65. But this year, the president has pledged allegiance to our men’s basketball team – at least for one round. Though Obama chose Temple to advance to play San Diego State University, he sided with the Mountain West Conference champs for the win. Check out all of Obama’s picks here. (Don’t feel like clicking? He has Kansas winning the final match up against Ohio State.)

Owls fall against ASU

President Obama was wrong.

No. 6 Arizona State defeated No. 11 Temple in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 66-57, in Miami. The president, among others, expected Temple to upset ASU and advance to the second round.

Some things just don’t translate

With Temple gearing up for round one of the NCAA tournament tomorrow against Arizona State, the Owls are focused on winning and what the tournament can mean for them.

But for one Owl, the tournament is getting lost in translation.

Obama picks Temple to advance

President Barack Obama filled out the official Presidential Bracket today, and he gave the Temple Owls a shot.

Obama picked Temple — and fellow city contender Villanova — to advance in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, which begins this week.

The good news ends after the first round, though, as Obama predicts Temple will not defeat its second-round contender (who, pending a major upset, will be Syracuse).

Villanova, he said, will make it to the Sweet 16. But UNC will take it all.

Owls earned No. 11 seed

They’ll face No. 6 Arizona State Friday in the first-round game in Miami.
