Outfest 2011

Philadelphia celebrated National Coming Out Day today by closing off the gayborhood for Outest. The festival lasted from noon to 6 p.m. with live performances, street vendors and outdoor dance parties.

During this year’s festival Giovanni’s Room a local LGBT bookstore was awarded a historical marker.

Lattee Run

As usual, I came to club Tech to get some work done. For some  reason I had no inspiration nor motivation to get my editing session started so I did what any uninspired editor would do, walk away from the computer. My intentions were to get fresh air, grab a lattee from Saxby and hurry back to the computer lab before it was impossible to get a MAC. After one short phone call to a friend and two subway rides to Center City I found myself in Chinatown in the mist of a festival. We ended up staying for an hour and a half trying delicious foods and engaging in cultural experiences from all over. It was a beautiful night and positive energy all around. Now, I’m back at the Tech …and still no inspiration.

Farmer’s Market comes to Main Campus

Every Thursday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m., a farmers market will come to Cecil B. Moore Avenue between Broad Street and Park Walk with what seems like endless options of fresh, local and affordable produce.

Some of the delicious treats available include home made pies, seasonal fruits & vegetables, mint leaves, pumpkins, flowers, jelly, jam, cider, beef jerky, honey, and organic dairy products.

Occupy Philly

The ongoing Occupy Wall Street protests, which began in New York City last week, have now reached Philly. Protesters assembled at the west side of City Hall beginning at 9 a.m. this morning, and have plans and permission to camp out there tonight. The protests are aimed at addressing economic inequality, corporate greed and the influence of congressional lobbyists among a slew of other social concerns. Since it’s start early this morning the crowd has continued to grow. Other cities have followed suit with protests and plans for demonstrations, including Washington, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago and others. Check back at temple-news.com for ongoing coverage of the protests.

U Got Munchies hit and run

A vehicle hit the U Got Munchies truck and drove away today just after 1pm. The lunch truck shook a bit, and the collision seemed to injure one of the workers, according to a witness.

The witness speculated the male employee may have burnt his arm, while the other employee seemed unharmed.

The incident was not reported to Campus Safety Services.

Mustache?

Google images of Fran Dunphy, Temple’s men’s basketball coach and in every image he has a mustache. However, USA Today reported that Fran Dunphy will shave his famed mustache in honor of former player Dionte Christmas’ graduation this Thursday.

Be sure to check out his new look during Temple’s 2011-2012 basketball season. The first home game is scheduled for December 3 against Central Michigan.

Computer Love

You know I’ve been searching for someone
Who can share that special love with me
And your eyes have that glow
Could it be your face I see on my computer screen

Need a special girl (ooh yeah)
To share in my computer world
I no longer need a strategy
Thanks to modern technology

Yep, Zapp & Roger couldn’t have said it any better.

I’m not surprised that you can have a ‘fake girlfriend’ via the Internet. The service called fakegirlfriend.co, is a REAL service that will have your ‘ digital girlfriend’ call AND text you! I’m not sure about most people, but to me it seems more trouble than it’s worth. But, I am pretty sure many people will utilize the service out of pure desperation and to receive that attention they crave.
