Another player responds to football letter

Much like QB Adam DiMichelle before him, former Owl DB Charles McLaughlin (his blog) responds to the letter to the editor written in the 9/18 issue of The Temple News criticizing the football team’s behavior on campus.

Unedited from Temple-News.com:

Hey Josh,

I’ve read your letter a few times in reference to the Temple football team. At first, I was ready to join in and bash you for taking such an approach. But being born and raised in Philadelphia, I know that even that what you wrote is more about you caring about us then trying to intentionally disrespect us (you know, we boo because we care?).

Now you did write some things very disrespectful and completely assuming that all football players and perhaps student-athletes in general act this way.

A true leader: DiMichele responds to letter

Two weeks ago, TTN published a letter to the editor criticizing the football team‘s off-field actions. Here’s starting QB Adam DiMichele’s response — unedited — for your enjoyment.

No matter what you say about the team’s performance on the field — it takes a true leader like DiMichele, shown here in a game at Penn State last year, to unselfishly stand up for his teammates.

Updated: Jasmine Was A Sitting Stone

Stone Cold Hug

One of the most energetic players on the women’s basketball team will not be in uniform at the start of the season.

Sophomore forward Jasmine Stone will not be able to compete for the Owls when the season starts next month after failing to meet NCAA eligibility requirements, a Temple spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

Stone could still possibly become eligible for the second semester, a source close to the program said. Her name no longer appears on the team roster on the Temple Athletics Web site.

Stone averaged 3.1 points and 6.2 rebounds coming off the bench last season. Although she didn’t start in any of the 26 games she played in, Stone was the Owls’ third leading rebounder last season.

A lively presence on the court, the 6-foot-3 Detroit-native would dance in the center of a circle consisting of her teammates during the pre-game introductions of almost every contest last season.

Someone else will have to dance in that circle when the season tips off against Central Michigan at the Liacouras Center Nov. 12.

The Owls will begin preseason practice on Oct. 12.

The makings of a Philadelphia fan

Philadelphia sports fans are interesting people. They’re rude, outspoken, distasteful, annoying, obnoxious and downright disgusting.

If they don’t like you, they’ll let you know. If they like you, it’ll probably be a short-lived feeling (that is, wait until you screw up just once).

But you have to give Philadelphia fans at least one good quality: they’re loyal. And no one has seen this more than the Philadelphia Phillies.
