Student housing at 10th and Diamond to be completed by August 2012

Members of Metamorphosis Community Development corporation, Mosaic Development Partners, and Orenes Brothers Real Estate Inc. are partnering in a $20 million student housing complex which is estimated to be completed by next August. The building will be named Diamond Green. Developers are attempting to attract football players by the building’s proximity to the practice field. The complex will include retail, a deli, a daycare center, a fitness center, and indoor parking. The community hopes that the project will bring students out of surrounding neighborhoods and into more designated student housing. Estimated rates are $650/month.

Faces of the occupation

Ginger of New Jersey is a singer-songwriter who performed at Occupy on Saturday afternoon. She finds the financial situation stressful, frustrating, and aggravating as she and her husband Ben feed their only child using food stamps.

Moses lives on Philadelphia’s streets and is grateful that the occupation provides food and safety. “We usually get chased out all the time.  This has been a safe haven,” said Moses on Saturday.

Aliens prompt human audiences to both laugh and cry

Lacking flying saucers and green skin, the characters in Theatre Exile’s production of Annie Baker’s The Aliens are strangely human, relatable to most earthlings who have gone through  breakup, felt left out, or been passionate about something. Although the set does not change and there are only three characters, the script roams from calculous to shrooms, from silence to heartfelt song. The Aliens will entertain you, but will leave Theatre Exile after this weekend. Go see it tonight (9/23) at 8 pm, tomorrow (9/24) at 4 or 8 pm, or Sunday (9/25) at 2 or 7 pm. Reduced student ticket prices are available with coupons from the PEX (Philadelphia Experience) passports available at the Student Center. The show takes place at Studio X: 1340 S. 13th street.

Hawks in owl territory

The hawk sticker attempts to protect real birds from dying by flying into the glass of the student center. Other hawk silhouettes keep watch on other Temple buildings with large pieces of glass. Unfortunately, the sticker on the student center has failed to guard the building
