One of the most energetic players on the women’s basketball team will not be in uniform at the start of the season.
Sophomore forward Jasmine Stone will not be able to compete for the Owls when the season starts next month after failing to meet NCAA eligibility requirements, a Temple spokesperson confirmed Thursday.
Stone could still possibly become eligible for the second semester, a source close to the program said. Her name no longer appears on the team roster on the Temple Athletics Web site.
Stone averaged 3.1 points and 6.2 rebounds coming off the bench last season. Although she didn’t start in any of the 26 games she played in, Stone was the Owls’ third leading rebounder last season.
A lively presence on the court, the 6-foot-3 Detroit-native would dance in the center of a circle consisting of her teammates during the pre-game introductions of almost every contest last season.
Someone else will have to dance in that circle when the season tips off against Central Michigan at the Liacouras Center Nov. 12.
The Owls will begin preseason practice on Oct. 12.
