Former university president dies

He died on Sunday in his Chestnut Hill home at the age of 90. Wachman served for nearly a decade prior to Peter Liacouras, who preceded David Adamany and current university President Ann Weaver Hart.

Liacouras, who is largely credited for reinvigorating ties between Temple and the surrounding communities, thanked Wachman for beginning those relationships.

In an interview with The Temple News, Hart noted the influence Wachman had offered her, as he continued to have a presence on Main Campus more than 25 years after he retired as president.

The loss of Wachman was felt elsewhere, including obituaries in Milwaukee media, the city in which he was raised.
