President Ann Weaver Hart wants Temple faculty to move into the surrounding community . While $5,000 loans are unlikely to get Temple’s senior faculty into the North Philly spirit, it’s a step in the right direction from 10 years ago, when the Trustees ponied up $1.25 million for former President David Adamany’s Rittenhouse party-spot.
“Our goal is continued growth and investment in our city, from Main Campus south to City Hall, and north to the health sciences campus,” Hart told the Metro Monday.
Approximately 500 Temple staff and faculty live in that target area – but it’s debatable how much of that is tenured faculty. The program is modeled after UPenn’s, which neighbors call “McPenntrification.” Penn’s program has netted 400 new professors since 1998. Hart is hoping for 250.
