A Rowan University student was beaten to death on the morning of October 27th.
While urban campuses such as Temple receive a lot of attention pertaining to crime, past incidents such as this one have demonstrated that violent crime is not only an urban issue, its a college issue. Even though campus police got on the scene in less than 90 seconds, the suspects were able to escape. Rowan University is like Temple in the regards it has emergency telephone stations scattered around campus, and an alert system.
In related news, earlier today President Ann Weaver Hart announced just that:
Your safety is our utmost priority. We are committed to ensuring a safe environment for learning, living and working. Beginning today, we are implementing MIR3, a unified, multi-modal emergency communication system capable of creating and sending instantaneous notifications to students, faculty and staff using email, text messages, TDD/TTY, land lines and cellular telephone calls.
