The brothers of the fraternity Kappa Sigma got together over the weekend to help clean the Georgia E. Gregory Interdenominational School of Music on 1628 W. Allegheny Avenue.
Temple News reporter Arthur Kern followed the fraternity during their day of service and found out why the brothers think service is so important.
“As human being we’re all called to service, and Kappa Sigma answers that call,” said Mark Fabbi, a sophomore political science major and the community service chair for Kappa Sigma.
The brothers of Kappa Sigma dunked mops in soupy water, swept dusty floors and moved stacks of furniture. The school serves as a place for student to practice musical instruments and learn theory after school.
“They came in with energy and enthusiasm and willingness to serve. We are so thankful to have a group of young men to come out on a Saturday,” said Joyce Drayton, the founder and executive director of the school.
The event was organized by United Way, a volunteer-led nonprofit group. Kappa Sigma will continue their service to the community on October 21st for Philadelphia Cares day.
