City cuts crime but still tops FBI’s list

Maybe Michael Nutter is making good on his promise to reduce crime.

According to an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer the city reported a 3.7 percent decrease in homicides in the last year. There was also a significant decrease in violent crime, 7.4 percent.

While headway is being made in the fight against crime, Philadelphia still had the highest numbers for the nation’s 10 largest jurisdictions.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Charles Ramsey said the numbers were a great starting point but that it’s only the beginning.

The city had the worst murder rates for the 10 largest cities but some smaller areas fared fair worse. New Orleans reported 95 murders per 100,0o0 people. The city of Baltimore had a rate of 45 while Philly’s rate was 27.2.
