NCC DEBATE: Candidates opening remarks

The debate opened tonight with moderator George Stephenopoulos asking the candidates to explain their recent missteps. Obama apologized on behalf of both and said that they go around the country giving messages, and sometimes those messages aren’t delivered in the best way.

Stephenopoulos also asked if the candidates would eventually team up on Democratic ticket with one running for president and the other going for vice president. Both avoided the idea of a dual ticket. Clinton said she believes she would make the best president, while Obama responded he would be the best commander in chief.

The questions in the first half hour focused mostly on Obama’s record, but moderator Charles Gibson said Clinton would be allotted more time to make up for the unevenness.
