A Temple University student who was behind the wheel in a car crash that killed fellow Temple student, Ciara DePrill, on Feb. 4, 2006, was convicted of drunken driving last week.
Dreamah Knoll (right), a 23-year-old biology major, was exonerated of all other charges, including homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. She will remain free on bail pending her sentencing on Jan. 25.
Knoll was driving westbound on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge at around 3 a.m. when her Honda hit a median barrier. Deprill, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the crash, Knoll’s blood alcohol level was 0.10 percent, above the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent for drivers.
The two students worked together at Club 27, an Olde City Philadelphia nightclub, according to the Allentown Morning Call. DePrill was a 2004 graduate of Allen High School.
A candlelight vigil was held at the Bell Tower in DePrill’s honor a week after her death and an educational symposium on alcohol use and the effects of drunk driving was held on campus one year later.
