SLAP and Jobs for Justice activists have begun resorting to theatrics to get Temple President Ann Weaver Hart’s attention.
At 4 p.m. today, five of them showed up outside Sullivan Hall wrapped in caution tape. They held manila envelopes containing letters for the president and chair of the Board of Trustees Daniel H. Polett, reiterating the demands they’ve vocalized for the past two months: give AlliedBarton guards five paid sick days.
They were spurned by Temple police while trying to enter the building. Eileen Bradley, captain of special services for Temple police, told them that the building is not technically public and offered to take the letter up for them. They insisted that they take it up themselves. Charles Leone, deputy director of campus safety, came out to speak with. Bradley and a compromise was made to allow just one member, accompanied by Leone, into the building to deliver the letters to Hart’s secretary while the costumed protestors waited.
Kevin Paris, the SLAP member who delivered the letter, explained to the police officers that the intention was to make sure Hart is getting the message, as there has been vague indication whether or not she has in the past.
