Tonight, the Temple football team will attempt to win their fourth consecutive game when they take on Ohio (4-5, 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference)
That is not a misprint.
The Owls are going for their fourth consecutive win.
The surging Owls were cooled off by a bye week and the loss of red-shirt junior quarterback Adam DiMichele, whose season came to an end when he suffered a comminuted fracture of his left tibia against Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 20. Sophomore quarterback Vaughn Charlton will make his first start of the season behind center.
In order for the Owls to improve to 4-5 overall and 4-2 in the MAC, they’ll have to contain Ohio running back Kalvin McRae. The senior tailback is tied for the national lead in rushing touchdowns with 16 and has attained 1,062 yards on the ground in nine games.
“He’s a low center of gravity guy,” Golden said. “It makes him hard to tackle … He has the ability to stick a foot in the ground and get north quickly which makes it really hard. You have a tendency to overrun that kind of player and then if you’re making an arm tackle because you’re out of position, he’s going to run right through you.”
The goal for the Owls, Golden said, is to win the battle up front.
“You have a tough, rugged nasty offensive line that feeds off the tailback,” Golden said. “They think 40 carries is normal. The way they have organized themselves on offense with [McRae] – it’s one of those deals where everybody in the stadium knows he’s getting the ball and they try to whip your butt. I think the offensive line really takes a lot of pride in that.”
