Life in the Bike Lane: Rack ‘em up

Yo, bikers! Today is the day I know you’ve all been waiting for. Be sure to stay tuned each week for a new and exciting look into the world of Philly biking. So lock up your single-speed and unroll your right pant leg, ’cause we all know that two wheels are better than four.

There’s seven weeks left in the semester. It’s been cold and rainy lately and you’ve had to take SEPTA to class. Not to mention, you’ve gained five pounds just from drinking too many Pumpkin Spiced Lattes at Starbucks just to stay up and study for that Econ midterm. Usually around this time of year, life can really be a drag.

But look on the bright side, we have something to get excited about–New bike racks! These four-foot-long steel beauties have been cropping up all over campus in recent weeks. In the beginning of the semester, one was added across from the Student Center on 12th and Montgomery. The TECH Center has also received some bike rack lovin’. Three new ones have been placed in close proximity to Tuttleman, my favorite being the one two steps (literally) away from the door–great for when I’m running late to that umm, 10:10 that I only have on Thursdays. Ooh, and today I noticed one brand new silver gem outside of Annenberg Hall. It looked lonely sans bicycles and was still all wrapped up in yellow caution tape. I bet you all can’t wait to deflower that little guy.

I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited about these racks. Temple did something pretty cool for the bikers. So stop locking up to the fences and show the racks some love. I’m sure both will thank you.
